Ovral

Ovral is generically known as norgestrel and ethinyl estradiol. Norgestrel and ethinyl estradiol are female hormones responsible for the prevention of ovulation - the release of an ovum from ovary. Ovral alters the cervical mucus and the lining of uterus, making it difficult for the sperm to reach the uterus and difficult for a fertilized ovum to get attached on the uterus.

Pregnancy And Ovral

This medicine should not be used during the gestation period. The hormones in this medication can be excreted into the maternal milk and may cause damage to the nursing infant. This drug may also reduce the production of breast milk. Avoid the use of this medicine during breast feeding a baby.

Norgestrel

Norgestrel is a synthetic progestin, a type of female hormone. It is used in various hormonal contraceptive formulations, including birth control pills and emergency contraception (also known as the "morning-after pill").

As a progestin, norgestrel works by altering the cervical mucus and the lining of the uterus, making it more difficult for sperm to reach the egg and for a fertilized egg to implant in the uterus. It may also inhibit ovulation, preventing the release of an egg from the ovary.

Norgestrel is a component in several birth control pills and has been used in emergency contraception pills due to its effectiveness in reducing the risk of pregnancy after unprotected intercourse. Emergency contraception containing norgestrel is meant to be used within a specific timeframe after unprotected sex to help prevent pregnancy.
